These engines would be shared by Ford, Mazda, and whoever else in the Ford family with the need for it. - Mazda did this and developed a 4-cylinder engine family in the following displacements: 1.8, 2.0, 2.3. Even though the Mazda3 1.6l is often referred to as a MZR, it's actually part of a smaller engine family (remember my rule #1).
The problems with Mazda diesels are well-documented. It's rather an illogical reaction to assume that everything Mazda produces is suspect. The reputation of their petrol engines is excellent. The CX-5 is a lovely car. I've been running the petrol version for a few (trouble-free) years now and am very happy with it.
Under Ford the engines are simply known as the 1.6L EcoBoost engine. However, Volvo badges the engines as the B4164T. There’s also another number at the end of the Volvo engine code depending on the specific variant of the 1.6 inline-4 engine. Mazda 6 - Mazda 6 2.5 - thoughts?. While looking at 10 year old used Mazda 6s, I noticed that the 2.0 versions and the 2.5 versions are available at similar prices. Can folks who have driven the 2.5 version give me your thoughts on it? I test drove a version with the 2.5 engine. But used car test drives are by nature short test drives.
